چکیده
INTroDuCTIoN Intramammary infection (mastitis) is the most common reason for the use of antimicrobials in dairy cows (Mitchell et al. 1998; Grave et al. 1999). Antimicrobials have been used to treat mastitis for more than fifty years, but consensus about the most efficient, safe, and economical treatment is still lacking. The concept of evidence-based medicine has been introduced to veterinary medicine (Cockcroft and Holmes 2003) and should apply also to treatment of mastitis. The impact on public health should be taken into account as dairy cows produce milk for consumption (OIE 2008). The aim of this article is to review current treatments of mastitis during lactation and seek for evidence-based, best practice treatment recommendations for bovine mastitis.

Common Drug Interactions Leading to Adverse Drug Events in the ICU: Management and Pharmacokinetic Considerations
Critically ill patients, given the nature and extent of their critical illness, frequently receive complex multidrug regimens. Organ dysfunction and polypharmacy potentially can lead to adverse drug interplay and an adverse event. Drug interactions may be pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic. A pharmacokinetic interaction arises when one drug alters the absorption, distribution, metabolism, or el...
متن کاملDrug therapy in dental practice: general principles. Part 2 - pharmacodynamic considerations.
The fundamental principles that govern drug therapy are often overlooked by the busy clinician. This disregard frequently results in the use of particular drugs and regimens that may be less ideal for the clinical situation being managed. By convention, these principles are categorized as pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic. Pharmacokinetic processes include drug absorption, distribution, biotr...
متن کاملMethods to identify and characterize developmental neurotoxicity for human health risk assessment. III: pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic considerations.
We review pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors that should be considered in the design and interpretation of developmental neurotoxicity studies. Toxicologic effects on the developing nervous system depend on the delivered dose, exposure duration, and developmental stage at which exposure occurred. Several pharmacokinetic processes (absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion) go...
متن کاملIncorporation of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data into risk assessments.
Risk assessment methodologies are being updated to allow the inclusion of numerical values for variance in pharmacokinetic (PK) measures and pharmacodynamic (PD) processes related to toxicity. The key PK measures and PD processes are identified from the results of carefully conducted and adequately reported studies. In some instances, studies with humans are not possible, and so the development...
متن کاملPharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) considerations in the management of Gram-positive bacteraemia.
Bloodstream infections are amongst the most serious infections of hospitalised patients and are associated with high mortality, especially amongst those with severe sepsis and septic shock. A range of organ dysfunctions, together with drug interactions and other therapeutic interventions (e.g. haemodynamically active drugs and continuous renal replacement therapies) may have a strong impact on ...
